Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study's country.

An editor may desk reject a submission if it does not meet minimum standards of quality. Before submitting, please ensure that the study design and research argument are structured and articulated properly. The title should be concise and the abstract should be able to stand on its own. This will increase the likelihood of reviewers agreeing to review the paper. When you're satisfied that your submission meets this standard, please follow the checklist below to prepare your submission.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
  • A Letter of Ethical Approval is obtained from a recognized Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Review Committee (ERC).
  • The ethical approval certificate is uploaded with the manuscript submission.
  • The following details are clearly stated in the manuscript:
      • Name of the approving committee
      • Reference or approval number
      • Date of ethical approval
  • The study confirms adherence to:
      • The latest version of the Declaration of Helsinki (for human research), or
      • National/Institutional animal-care guidelines (for animal research).
  • Studies without prior ethical review are not acceptable and may be returned or rejected.
  • Retrospective analyses of anonymized data include an official exemption letter from the relevant IRB/ERC.
  • A Conflict of Interest Statement is included, declaring any potential conflicts.
  • Funding sources are clearly disclosed in the manuscript.
  • Written informed consent has been obtained from all participants, or a valid waiver of consent is justified and documented

Articles

To maintain consistency, transparency, and high editorial standards, WAJHN applies the following default policies to all submissions. Authors are advised to review these carefully before submitting their manuscripts. 

  1. Research Articles
  • Review Process: Double-blind peer review.
  • Length: 4,000–7,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures).
  • Content Requirements: Must present original, unpublished research with clear objectives, methodology, results, and discussion.
  • Ethics: Studies involving human or animal subjects must include ethical approval and informed consent statements.
  • Data Transparency: Authors are encouraged to share underlying data or provide a data availability statement.
  1. Review Articles
  • Review Process: Double-blind peer review.
  • Length: 5,000–8,000 words.
  • Content Requirements: Critical synthesis of existing research; systematic or scoping reviews are strongly encouraged. Must highlight knowledge gaps and directions for future research.
  • Originality: Should not simply summarize literature but provide analytical depth and added value.
  1. Case Studies / Case Reports
  • Review Process: Peer review (double blind).
  • Length: 2,000–4,000 words.
  • Content Requirements: Must describe unique or rare cases in health or nutrition practice with educational or clinical significance. Clear background, presentation, diagnosis, intervention, and outcomes must be provided.
  • Consent: Written informed consent from patients/participants (if applicable) is mandatory.
  1. Editorials / Commentaries (by invitation only)
  • Review Process: Editorial review.
  • Length: 1,000–2,000 words.
  • Content Requirements: Insightful perspectives on emerging trends, policy issues, or debates in health and nutrition.

General Policies for All Sections

  • Language: Manuscripts must be written in clear, academic English.
  • Formatting: Authors should follow the WAJHN Author Guidelines and use APA referencing style.
  • Open Access: All articles are published under an open access license, ensuring free and global availability.
  • Publication Ethics: Submissions must adhere to COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines. Plagiarism, data fabrication, or unethical practices will not be tolerated.
